Nobel Prize

Hi readers!

In these days, we have also worked in teams. Each team has collected information about the Nobel Prizes winners of six different subjects, such as physics, chemistry, literature, peace, economics and physiology and medicine. Later, each of us, have chosen one of these winners to write an article. In my article, I am going to talk about Kailash Satyarthi and Malala Yousafzai, winners of the Nobel Peace Prize 2014. I have chosen peace due to that in my opinion, it is one of the most important things to have in a country. And as I am concerned about children and young people situation in the world, I thought explaining you what this two people made was the best choice.

Kailash Satyarthi

Firstly, I would like to start informing you about Kailash Satyarthi. This man was born on 11 January 1954 in the Vidisha district of central Indian state Madhya Pradesh. He is an Indian children's rights advocate and an activist against child labour. During his life, he has acted to protect the rights of more than 83.000 children from 144 countries. His work is recognised through various international honours and awards including the Nobel Peace Prize of 2014, which he shared with Malala Yousafzai. Satyarthi is the fifth Nobel Prize winner for India. I think this video will interest you.

Malala Yousafzai
To continue, I would like to explain you what Malala Yousafzai had done to win the Nobel Prize. This woman was born on 12 July 1997 in Pakistan. She is an activist for female education, mainly known for human rights advocacy. Two years ago, in 2012, Malala boarded her school bus when a gunman asked for her by name, pointed a pistol at her and fired three shots. On the following days, she remained in a critical condition, but soon after her condition improved. She won the National Youth Peace Prize at the age of 17, being the youngest-ever Nobel Prize winner. This video will help you knowing how important her work really is.

As a conclusion, the Nobel Peace Prize 2014 was awarded jointly to Kailash Satyarthi and Malala Yousafzai for their struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education. From my point of view, I think the work that this two people had made will help to improve the situation around the world. Kailash and Malala had numerous problems during their lives, fortunately they knew how to overtake the difficulties. Lets change the world!

Don't forget to leave a comment. See you soon!

Say No to violence against women!

Hi readers!

As we all know, 25th November is the international day in which we say NO to violence against women. Violence against women is a consequence of discrimination against women, in law and also in practise, and of persisting inequalities between men and women. There are three different ways of mistreating people: physical, psychological, and sexual violence.

Roughly, %31 of women have experienced one or more acts of physical violence since the age of 15. While women are most likely to indicate that they were pushed or shoved, excluding this form of violence has only a limited effect on the overall prevalence of physical violence, bringing it down from 31 % to 25 %.

These are some of the characteristics of sexual violence:

  • In total, 11% of women have experienced some from of sexual violence since they were 15 years old, either by a partner or some other person.
  • One in 20 women (5 %) has been raped since the age of 15. Of those women who indicate they have been victims of sexual violence by a non-partner, almost one in 10 women indicates that more than one perpetrator was involved in the incident.
Details of intimate partner violence:
  • One third of victims (34 %) of physical violence by a previous partner experienced four or more different forms of physical violence. The most common forms of physical violence involve pushing or shoving, slapping or grabbing, or pulling a woman’s hair.
Details of non-partner violence:
  • One in five women (22%) has experienced physical violence by someone other than their partner since the age of 15.
As a conclusion, we can say that many women are mistreated all over the world. This article has been written by my classmate Maialen and I, and we think that we all must do something to stop this. The information which we added have been chosen from an official web page. If you are interested and you want to read more, click here.
